I heard Bush when he said "I hear the voices" (of dissent). As a stringer for Free Speech TV, I am fortunate to have the opportunity to film a lot of very articulate people speaking on the issues of our time. Father Roy Bourgeois, Founder of the School of the Americas Watch, tells of his background and the history of SOA Watch. He describes the annual vigil at the gates of Ft. Benning and the progress of their Latin American Initiative which ask the leaders of Latin American countries to withdraw their soldiers from the SOA. Noted author and journalist Robert Scheer describes out-of-control military spending in his new book “The Pornography of Power – How Defense Hawks Hijacked 9/11 and Weakened America.” He details how congress people and lobbyists push for weapons systems the military does not want, such as a 300 billion dollar program for F22 jet fighters or two new 2.5 billion dollar submarines per year to take on a terrorists enemy who attached us using $3 box cutters and lives in desert caves without a dinghy or a row boat - while the cost of these two submarines could insure the 4 million children who don’t currently have health care. Award-winning journalist, author and filmmaker Naomi Klein details what she calls the “the shock doctrine”: the use of public disorientation following massive collective shocks – wars, terrorists attacks, natural disasters – to push through highly unpopular economic policies. She explains how disaster capitalism – the rapid-fire corporate reengineering of societies that are reeling from shock – did not begin with September 11 but has been standard operating procedure for some time. Colonel (Ret.) Ann Wright served 13 years in the U.S. Army and 16 years in the Foreign Service. She has served as U.S. Deputy Ambassador in numerous countries around the world. On the eve of the U.S. invasion of Iraq she resigned in protest, stating that without the authorization of the UN Security Council, the invasion of a Muslim, Arab, oil-rich country would be a disaster. She remains actively involved in the peace movement. At this event, Col. They run our government and practically every other significant government in the world.
